Mesothelial Cells, Cancer And Its Effects

Most of the viscera of the body is covered and protected by layer of specialized cells or a membrane called the mesothelium. The mesothelium has two layers of cells: you immediately surrounds the organ and the other by a thick layer around the previous one. This film itself produces and secretes a lubricating oil between the two layers, allowing organs to move smoothly against adjacent organs and structures (such as expansion and contraction of the lungs, heart, etc. ..)

Depending on where in the body, the mesothelium has different names. The mesothelial tissue that covers most organs in the abdominal cavity called the peritoneum. The membrane surrounding the lungs and lines the chest wall is called the pleura. The heart is covered and protected by tissue called the pericardium.

O mesothelioma Mesothelioma is a disease in which cells become abnormal and divide enormously and mesothelium for any purpose that leads to tumors. Mesothelial cell tumors can be benign (not cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Because most mesothelial tumors are cancerous, malignant mesothelioma is often simply called mesothelioma. Malignant mesothelioma has been considered in three forms:

o peritoneal mesothelioma: the peritoneum or membrane surrounding the abdomen.

or pericardial mesothelioma: the pericardium, or lining surrounding the heart.

o pleural mesothelioma: the most common form of malignant mesothelioma and affects the lining of the lung cavity.

The majority of malignant mesothelioma associated with previous exposure to fibrous minerals, asbestos, which is the most important. Asbestos is a mineral that occurs naturally in a strong, flexible fibers can be divided into thin threads and woven. Asbestos was widely used in many industrial products, including cement, brake linings, tiles, flooring products, textiles, and insulation.
